"Portland (Design) Pattern Repository". It has evolved in features since
then.

Soon thereafter, Patrick Mueller writes the first wiki clone using Rexx.

The original wiki is file based, newer engines can also use SQL databases.

Important features such as WikiCategories, ChangeSummary, etc. have been
introduced and maintained by the community since the beginning.

Currently there are many wiki engines and derivatives.
